Inverted Vanitas

2010 - 13

Existing between sculpture, architecture, painting and object, the piece entitled ‘Inverted Vanitas’ consists of three glass castings of negative space that surround ornately decorated picture frames, the central frame containing three-dimensional still life objects that allude to the remains of an elaborate dining experience. 'Inverted Vanitas', entwines the rich meaning and metaphor of the pomegranate. Its mirrored flesh aims to capture the reflection of its audience, thus accentuating its association with vanity, greed and desire.
